Starbucks closes another downtown Seattle store

Another Starbucks coffeehouse in downtown Seattle is slated to shutter soon.

The shop, located at 1700 Seventh Ave., is in a buzzy part of Denny Triangle, one block from Pacific Place. Its final day will be Sunday, a barista confirmed Tuesday. The Starbucks website also shows the coffeehouse will be closed Monday.

The Seattle-based coffee giant didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

The location is not listed as a unionized coffeehouse on the website of Starbucks Workers United, which represents thousands of baristas.

This latest shuttering follows a store closure over the summer at the Docusign Tower on Third Avenue.

It also comes amid CEO Brian Niccol’s “Back to Starbucks” plan, which focuses on reviving the company’s traditional coffeehouse experience with upgraded stores, more staffing, smoother operations and reduced consumer wait times. A slew of layoffs and store closures, including in Seattle, have accompanied that plan.

On Tuesday afternoon, several baristas still fluttered behind the counter at the Seventh Avenue location, taking orders and scribbling on cups. Customers waited inside for their midday pick-me-ups, a steady stream of business that didn’t hint at the store’s coming closure.
