Seattle weather: Rain and chance of thunderstorms for the weekend

We’re on a bit of a weather roller coaster lately.

After ascending into a warm, sunshine-y summer stint midweek, we’re about to plunge into fall with a weekend promising rain and a chance of thunderstorms. 

You might feel the G-force pulling us down with the cloudy and cooler weather of late, and farther down the tracks, we’ll see much of the same on Friday before we hit the bottom. 

Friday will start out dry, but with lots of clouds and a high reaching the upper 60s or lower 70s at most, said National Weather Service meteorologist Dana Felton. Rain showers could begin in the evening. 

Saturday could see about a quarter-to-half an inch of rain, which is more than our usual spritzing, while temperatures stay much the same. Felton said there’s a 20% chance the weekend wetness could turn into thunderstorms. 

Those showers will carry into Sunday morning before fading out in the afternoon, Felton said. Highs will stick to the upper 60s or lower 70s as Seattle begins to dry out yet again.

Then, you’ll feel us start to swoop back up into summer weather again as the new week starts. Our roller coaster will clickity-clack up the track back into a summer arc toward the middle of next week, with temperatures going up into the mid-to-upper 70s, and maybe even reaching 80 degrees by Thursday.

That could be the last time we see 80 degrees this year, Felton said, and it may be summer’s last appearance before the official start of fall.
