In 1991, Preeti Aghalayam joined IIT Madras to study chemical engineering. After higher studies in the United States and years of teaching and research, she returned to the institute in a very different role. In 2023, she became the first woman to lead an IIT, taking charge as a director of its international campus in Zanzibar.
