An IIT Madras study of 33 financial cybercrime victims across five Indian cities found that many were highly educated professionals, including IT, banking, finance and cybersecurity workers. Researchers found that fear, stress, urgency, financial hopes and difficult life circumstances could override rational decision-making, causing victims to lose money and peace of mind.
