Scientists built a computer powered by bacteria to solve complex maths problems
Researchers have built a proof-of-concept biocomputer that uses bacteria to explore many possible solutions at once. The McGill-led team says it could eventually help tackle problems in molecular biology, encryption and AI. But errors and overcrowding remain major hurdles, and the system is not a replacement for conventional computers. The study was published in 2026.
