In 1935, BR Ambedkar declared that he would not die a Hindu. Twenty-one years later, after decades of fighting caste discrimination and examining other religions, he embraced Buddhism along with lakhs of followers in Nagpur on October 14, 1956, exactly 70 years ago. The historic conversion came just 53 days before his death.
