Monitoring Desk: US President Trump has nominated Rep. Wesley Hunt to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia who has been critical about Saudi Arabia and Sharia laws.

Saudi Arabia has no permanent US Ambassador since Michael Ratney left office at the end of the Biden administration.

Rep. Wesley Hunt is a Texas Congressman and Army veteran who served in Saudi Arabia and Iraq. In one of his interviews, argued that Sharia law involves harsh realities like public beheadings and severe restrictions on women’s rights. In this interview, he stated that such systems (Sharia law) are incompatible with American and Texan values, urging immigrants to assimilate by respecting U.S. laws, culture, and traditions instead of importing conflicting ideologies. Hunt warns against systems that undermine communities, a message that has drawn strong engagement amid ongoing U.S. immigration and cultural debates. He said:

People who dismiss Sharia law as fear-mongering have never lived under it. I lived in Saudi Arabia. I lived in Iraq.

I’ve seen what that system looks like in real life, not on cable news. Public beheadings happened there not long ago. Women couldn’t even drive when I was stationed there. That is not America, that’s not Texas, and it never will be. If you want to come to this country, you assimilate. You respect our laws, our culture, and our values. You don’t import systems that destroy communities.
