$53-million rehabilitation for section of Fairfield Avenue in St James
· The GleanerThe National Works Agency (NWA) is undertaking the rehabilitation of a section of Fairfield Avenue in St James, at a cost of $53 million.
Fairfield Avenue is located off the Fairfield to Point main road and is used to access several residential areas including Fairfield, Irwin, Cashew Grove, and Irwin Meadows.
The NWA says work on the corridor commenced in 2024 but was suspended to facilitate the much-needed replacement of faulty water mains beneath the road surface.
Community Relations Officer at the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts, says that following the works to address the faulty water mains, the agency commenced work in February 2025 to rehabilitate the targeted section of the roadway.
Ricketts says the project targets approximately two kilometres of roadway and includes drainage improvement, reshaping of the roadway and the laying of asphaltic concrete.
