This is just heart-shattering.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has officially released the cause of death for Carrie Elizabeth Romney, the late sister-in-law of Senator and one-time presidential candidate Mitt Romney — and it’s truly devastating.

Carrie, who was 64 years old, died back in October after a fall from the rooftop of a parking structure in Valencia, California, just north of Los Angeles. Now, according to a TMZ report on Tuesday citing the LA County Medical Examiner’s findings, Carrie’s cause of death has officially come in. Per that report, she died by suicide in the awful fall. Such an unimaginably painful situation…

Sadly, it appears she had been going through a difficult chapter in her life. Carrie was reportedly in the middle of a divorce after her husband Scott Romney filed for it back in June, citing irreconcilable differences. The two had been married since 2016.

As you’ll recall from our previous reporting, the Romney family shared a heartbreaking statement directly following her death:

“Our family is heartbroken by the loss of Carrie, who brought warmth and love to all our lives. We ask for privacy during this difficult time.”

Sending love, compassion, and space to the entire Romney family. This kind of loss is beyond words.
