N10m alleged extortion: Police release identities of detained Officers
by Hassan Muaz · The Eagle OnlineThe Nigeria Police Force has released the identities of its detained Officers involved in an alleged N10 million bribe in Bayelsa State.
The Force Public Relations Officer and an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made this known in a statement.
In the statement on Saturday, Adejobi also said the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has vowed severe punishment for the Officers, who are already in detention, if found guilty.
He gave the names of the officers who are of the Zone 16 Zonal Headquarters, Yenegoa, Bayelsa State as an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Emmanuel Ubong, and three Inspectors: Nse Okon, Adiewere Collins, and Kuromare Marine.

The officers were accused of extorting N10 million from a group of young Nigerians said to be serving National Youth Service Corps members.
The money, in cash, has since been recovered through the efforts of the new Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 16, Adewale Hamzat, and the Officers have since been detained and subjected to orderly room trial.
Adejobi said in the statement: “The Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of IGP Egbetokun, maintains a zero-tolerance policy for any act of corruption and police misconduct, as the Force takes every allegation of extortion and abuse of power extremely seriously.
“The IGP has however reassured the general public that the force will continue to investigate all allegations levelled against erring officers of the Force thoroughly.
“In pursuit of restorative justice, the Inspector-General of Police has mandated severe consequences for any officer, no matter how highly ranked, found culpable, acting as a deterrent to those who may seek to compromise the integrity of the Force.
