Kwara PDP adopts Kawu as consensus governorship candidate
by Adeola Balogun · The Eagle OnlineThe Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State has adopted Engr. Kale Kawu as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki announced the decision on Saturday after consultations with party stakeholders and governorship aspirants.
The development followed an earlier declaration of interest by five aspirants seeking the PDP governorship ticket in the state.
The aspirants included Ali Ahmad, Omar Bolaji Gambari, Ladi Hassan, Olaseni Ibiwoye and Kawu.
According to Saraki, the aspirants agreed to adopt a consensus arrangement instead of participating in a contested primary election.

“The candidate is Engr. Kale Kawu,” Saraki stated.
Saraki also commended the other aspirants for stepping down in the interest of party unity.
Other aspirants who, in the supreme interest of our party and state, have graciously stepped down to support this consensus,” he added.
Kawu is a former official of the Rural Electrification Agency, where he served as Director of Projects, Procurement, and Monitoring and Evaluation before retiring from public service.
