2027: Ortom reacts to reported interest in Senate seat

by · The Eagle Online

The immediate past governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, has reacted to reports that he would be vying for a Senate seat in the 2027 polls.

Ortom spoke in a statement signed by Dr. Terver Akase, his Media Adviser/Consultant, and made available to newsmen in Makurdi.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that there were social media reports that Ortom has declared his intention to contest the Benue North-West Senatorial seat in 2027.

Ortom said in the statement on Saturday: “I have no intention whatsoever to contest any elective office in 2027.

“I have said this clearly, publicly, and repeatedly.

“I expect that a position stated this plainly would not require translation or creative reinterpretation.”

The former governor emphasised his commitment to supporting democratic ideals, strengthening the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and offering statesmanlike guidance and not to chase elective office in 2027.

He urged the public to treat the report for what it is: “A fabrication.”
