Farmers, Herders clash: Eight killed in Kebbi Village
by Ayodele Ajoge · The Eagle OnlineThe Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the clash between farmers and herders in Gluma Town in Arugungu LGA of Kebbi State, which resulted in the death of eight persons, a farmer and seven herders.
This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bashir Usman.
According to the PPRO, the incident occurred on Monday at about 3pm when a herder, Yaron Buba Dogo, allegedly allowed his cattle to stray into the farmland of one Alhaji Aminu Ala, destroying his crops.
This led to confrontation during which the farmer was fatally stabbed in the neck.
Usman said: “Following the incident, an angry mob mobilised, attacked the herder, killed him, and set his body ablaze.”
He added that the mob thereafter carried out further attacks on members of the affected community despite the intervention of security operatives.
He said: “Four additional persons were killed and their bodies burned beyond recognition.
“Two more corpses were later recovered from a farmland outside Gulma Town.
“The Police subsequently rescued five persons, including one woman, who were trapped during the incident and moved them to safety at Argungu Police Station.”

The statement further revealed that a joint security team has been deployed to the area, while a curfew has been imposed by the government to maintain peace and prevent further escalation.
The statement also revealed that normalcy is gradually returning as patrols and surveillance continue.
Pointing out that the State Commissioner of Police, Umar M. Hadejia, has urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, he assured the public that all persons found culpable will be brought to justice.
