2027: APC clears Gov. Alia to contest governorship election
by The Eagle Online · The Eagle OnlineThe Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has successfully scaled the screening process of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and has been officially cleared to contest the primaries for the nomination as candidate for 2027 governorship election on the platform of the party.
The screening was conducted on Friday at the Plateau State Governor’s Lodge, venue for the exercise for incumbent governors.
The National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Goshwe, chaired the screening committee constituted to assess aspirants seeking to fly the party’s flag in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections.
The Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for the party primaries were procured for Governor Alia by the Benue State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) and Benue State Motorcycle Association (BEMOA).
The leadership of the two unions pointed to the massive turnaround of the fortunes of the state and the human face nature of Governor Alia’s administration as reasons they want him back to Government House to consolidate the gains.
The certification of the governor is widely regarded by political observers and stakeholders as a significant milestone in the consolidation of his political standing within the APC, especially in view of ongoing consultations and strategic alignments ahead of the 2027 general election.

The certification also signals the commencement of heightened political activities within the APC as preparations gradually gather momentum toward the 2027 electoral cycle.
Alia was elected governor of Benue State in 2023 on the platform of the APC and has since maintained a visible presence in the state’s political and governance landscape.
