APC aspirant challenges result of primaries in court

Dr. Sani Shinkafi, an aspirant for Zamfara North Senatorial District seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has filed a suit challenging the outcome of the party’s primaries.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls the incumbent, Senator Sahabi Ya’u, was declared winner of the primaries on May 19.

Speaking to journalists in Gusau on Monday after filing the suit at the Federal High Court, Gusau, Shinkafi accused the party of exclusion.

He said: “We are challenging the outcome of the primaries held on May 19 that produced Senator Sahabi Ya’u as winner.

“The APC failed to adhere to the guidelines of the Electoral Act and the Nigerian Constitution during the primaries.

“We are not satisfied with the outcome, hence we filed this case seeking legal action.”

Counsel to the plaintiff, Bello Galadi, urged the court to consider all evidence presented before it to do justice.

Galadi said: “We came to court to file a grievance against the emergence of Senator Ya’u as APC candidate for Zamfara North Senatorial District.

“The Electoral Act is clear on how a candidate emerges as contained in sections 84 and 85 of the Constitution.”
