ACF begins leadership transition, names acting Secretary General
by The Eagle Online · The Eagle OnlineThe Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) Leadership Selection Committee has began a leadership transition, beginning with the appointment of an acting Secretary General.
It submitted recommendations to the Board of Trustees (BOT) following the expiration of tenure of key officials and emergence of vacancies in the organisation’s leadership structure.
This was contained in a statement on Saturday signed by Brigadier General Haliru Akilu (retd), Chairman of the Selection Committee.
According to the committee, BOT members serve a single term of six years, while members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) serve a three-year term, renewable once for another three years.
It stated that the tenure of four senior officials who assumed office on March 10, 2020 and completed their six-year term on March 10, 2026 had officially expired.
Those affected are Senator F. Orti, Deputy Chairman, BOT; Ambassador Ibrahim Mai Sule, Vice Chairman, BOT; Senator Ibrahim Ida, Deputy Chairman, NEC; and Mallam Murtala Aliyu, Secretary General.
The committee noted that the positions had become vacant, adding that Aliyu had been given until May 15, 2026 to conclude his handover process and complete other exit formalities.

On the process of filling the vacancies, the committee said it had updated its database of potential candidates for the four positions during its meeting held on April 23.
It, however, explained that the selection and appointment into three of the positions, excluding that of Secretary General, had been deferred pending the conclusion of an ongoing review of the ACF Constitution.
“In the interim, to ensure continuity in the day to day operations of the Forum, an Acting Secretary General has been appointed,” the statement said.
The committee announced the appointment of Mallam Bukar Zarma as Acting Secretary General, noting that his tenure would lapse upon the appointment of a substantive office holder.
