Court sentences two men to death by hanging for killing their friend
by The Eagle Online · The Eagle OnlineA Kano High Court on Monday sentenced Yusuf Ahmad and Auwal Abdulhamid to death by hanging for stabbing their friend, Ibrahim Umar-Mahmud, to death.
Ahmad, who lives in Rijiyar Lemo Quarters, Ungogo Local Government Area, and Abdulhamid, of Bachirawa Quarters of Kano, were convicted of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
Delivering judgment, Justice Musa Dahuru-Muhammad held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.
Dahuru-Muhammad therefore sentenced the convicts to death by hanging.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Lamido Abba-Sorondinki, informed the court that the convicts committed the offence on June 7, 2025 at Bachirawa Quarters, Kano.
He said that at about 10am, the convicts caused the death of Umar-Mahmud, by stabbing him in the chest with a knife after a misunderstanding over football.

“The deceased was rushed to the Waziri Gidado Hospital where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor,” Abba-Sorondinki said.
The prosecution presented five witnesses and tendered exhibits to prove their case against the defendant.
The convicts, however, denied committing the offence.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 97(1) and 221(a) of the Penal Code Law.
The Defence Counsel, Mubarak Muhammad, presented the convicts to testify in their own defence.
