The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has inaugurated 49 welfare and infrastructure projects across the country to improve personnel welfare, address accommodation challenges and strengthen operational efficiency.

Shaibu disclosed this on Thursday during the commissioning of a newly constructed Officers Transit Accommodation at Life Camp, Abuja.

The facility was among 11 projects commissioned in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), while 38 others were inaugurated across Nigerian Army formations and units nationwide.

Speaking at the ceremony, the army chief said the projects aligned with his Command Philosophy, particularly the principles of Sound Administration and the Soldier First Concept, which prioritise personnel welfare in building a professional, adaptable and combat-ready force.

He noted that adequate accommodation and essential infrastructure were necessary to boost morale, improve productivity and strengthen the Army’s ability to discharge its constitutional responsibilities.

“The projects underscore the Nigerian Army’s sustained commitment to providing a conducive living and working environment for officers, soldiers and their families,” Shaibu said.

He urged officers who would occupy the newly commissioned transit accommodation to maintain the facility and demonstrate discipline and responsibility.

The COAS also reaffirmed his commitment to continued investment in welfare and infrastructure across Army formations and units, while appreciating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his sustained support for the Nigerian Army.

Earlier, the Chief of Logistics (Army), Major General Adekunle Adeyinka, said the Officers Transit Accommodation was designed to address temporary housing difficulties faced by officers posted to Army Headquarters and other formations in Abuja.

He explained that the facility comprised well-furnished, self-contained apartments equipped with modern amenities to accommodate officers awaiting permanent housing allocations.

According to Adeyinka, the development would improve personnel welfare and administrative efficiency by providing suitable temporary accommodation for officers transitioning to new postings.

During the visit, Shaibu also inspected ongoing infrastructure projects at Life Camp, including additional accommodation blocks, road rehabilitation and drainage works.

He expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of construction, directing contractors to comply strictly with approved timelines and specifications.
