Parents and Afghan Man in Custody Again Over Baby Death Case

The parents of a baby whose body was found in a freezer at their apartment in Kypseli, Athens, have been remanded in custody for a second time following their statements to investigators.

The 43-year-old Greek father and 38-year-old German mother had already faced pre-trial detention, along with the 26-year-old Afghan friend of their 15-year-old daughter, over a felony drug trafficking charge.

According to the indictment, the parents killed the baby by stabbing it and subsequently froze the body before taking it with them when they moved.

Prosecutors have charged the couple with intentional homicide of a family member acting jointly, as well as illegal possession and use of a weapon.

During their statements to investigators, the parents reportedly denied killing the baby.

Afghan man remanded for second time

An investigating magistrate and prosecutor also ordered the 26-year-old Afghan man to remain in pre-trial detention.

This time, authorities charged him with sexual acts involving the couple’s 15-year-old daughter.

According to reports, the man claimed during his statement that he believed the 15-year-old was an adult.

The three suspects now remain in custody as authorities continue investigating the case.
