Greece Gets Double Credit Boost as Mitsotakis Declares Economic Policy Vindicated

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said the latest credit rating upgrades for Greece confirm the government’s economic policy and the country’s steady economic progress.

In a post, Mitsotakis referred to the decision by Moody’s to upgrade Greece’s economic outlook from stable to positive, while Scope Ratings upgraded Greece’s credit rating to BBB with a stable outlook.

“The new double upgrade of the Greek economy’s outlook by Moody’s and, at the same time, the country’s credit rating by Scope, within a span of twenty four hours, confirms the correctness of the economic policy being pursued, along with the steady and continuous progress of our economy,” Mitsotakis said.

He said the upgrades came at a time of international turmoil and uncertainty, arguing that Greece is now viewed by the same international rating agencies that once classified its bonds as “junk” as an example of resilience, growth, reforms and rapid public debt reduction.

“Yesterday’s upgrades confirm the image of Greece as an island of political and economic stability and constitute another piece of a national success,” the prime minister said.

“Those who insist on nullifying or cancelling it are not doing an injustice to the government but to the protagonists of this collective effort, who are the citizens themselves,” he added.

Mitsotakis said economic reliability and stability would provide the foundation for higher wages and incomes, the creation of more and better jobs, and a stronger ability for the state to support households and businesses when necessary.

“That reliability and stability is the basis for a better future with fewer burdens for our children, so that wages and incomes increase, more and better jobs are created and the state’s ability to support households and businesses is strengthened when necessary,” he said.

Concluding his statement, Mitsotakis said Greece was continuing to move forward despite the difficult international environment.

“Greece is moving forward despite the stormy weather. With a plan, consistency, hope and results,” he said.
