Greece Raises Childcare Vouchers 10% as Income Limits Climb
by Bill Giannopoulos · Greek City TimesGreek childcare vouchers will rise in value by 10% for 2026–2027, while higher income limits will let more families claim a subsidised place at nurseries and day-care centres.
The Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family set out the changes in a new joint ministerial decision on Monday. Also, families with three children can now get a reduced-value voucher regardless of income.
Under the decision, income limits for vouchers rise by €2,000. In addition, a second call for applications will follow, so more parents can join the scheme. The move adds to earlier incentives for families with children.
“We managed to secure more support for families with children,” Social Cohesion and Family Minister Domna Minewschailidou said.

In her words, the decision is “one more step so that more parents have access to preschool care, can work and can organise their daily lives better”.
How much Greek childcare vouchers are worth
The 10% rise covers Greek childcare vouchers for infant, infant-toddler and children’s centres. An infant place with meals rises from €3,239 to €3,563.
Similarly, a toddler place with meals climbs from €2,612 to €2,873. In turn, the reduced-value voucher increases from €2,178 to €2,396.
The higher amounts apply automatically to Greek childcare vouchers that families already hold, so parents do not need to apply again. Also, reduced-value vouchers convert to full value when families now meet the higher income limits.
New income limits for families
Full-value vouchers now cover families earning up to €29,000 with up to two children. The limit is €32,000 for three children, €35,000 for four and €38,000 for five or more.
For reduced-value vouchers, the limit for families with up to two children climbs from €35,000 to €37,000. At the same time, the €38,000 cap for three-child families no longer applies.
As a result, three-child families can claim Greek childcare vouchers at the reduced value regardless of income. Large families with four or more children already enjoy the same right.
“We particularly support families raising three or more children, because we know their needs are greater,” Michailidou said.
Next, the Hellenic Agency for Local Development and Local Government (EETAA) will issue a second call for Greek childcare vouchers for 2026–2027. It will open to newly eligible families that do not already hold a voucher.
Earlier, the agency’s first call for applications ran from 18 July to 5 August 2026, with a budget of €393 million. Likewise, a second call last year approved vouchers for more than 6,000 children.
Michailidou co-signed the decision with five ministers and deputy ministers, including Interior Minister Theodoros Livanios and Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou.
