Thousands of Greek citizens have received military mobilisation notices through Gov.gr in recent days, prompting concern among many young people amid ongoing tensions between Greece and Turkey.

A military source who spoke to Ta Nea confirmed that the Armed Forces are currently sending thousands of Special Marching Orders (EFPs) to reservists. However, the source said the notices form part of a routine process to update reservists’ mobilisation records.

The process takes into account the age limits set by law for reservists, as well as changes to their place of residence for personal or professional reasons.

The source said the main difference from previous updates is the widespread use of the Gov.gr platform. Until now, the authorities had sent all notifications through the postal service.

The new electronic system also reduces the environmental and financial costs associated with printing and mailing the documents, according to the source. It reduces the need for printed materials and eliminates postage costs.

The military source also explained the meaning of the two colours used for the marching orders.

A green EFP indicates that the recipient has been assigned to a mobilisation unit, while holders of a white EFP remain available for future use if and when required.

The authorities consider factors including each reservist’s age, military speciality and health status when determining the relevant classification.
