Suspects arrested in the case involving To Choriatiko (Το Χωριάτικο), a Greek bakery chain, face a series of serious felony charges as prosecutors investigate alleged criminal activity linked to the business and a network of companies.

The prosecutor has brought charges against the suspects, depending on each person’s alleged role, including:

  • Forming, directing or participating in a criminal organisation.
  • Fraud against the Greek state and public-law legal entities involving more than €120,000.
  • Tax evasion exceeding €150,000 through inaccurate tax declarations and failure to remit VAT.
  • Aiding and abetting tax evasion.
  • Late payment of employer and employee social security contributions, a misdemeanour.
  • Forgery involving more than €120,000.
  • Pimping jointly and repeatedly.
  • Robbery committed jointly.
  • Joint fraud, classified as a misdemeanour.
  • Repeated breaches of residence restrictions.
  • An aggravated form of money laundering.

Following a decision by Athens Court of First Instance head Christoforos Limou, the case file was assigned to an investigating magistrate and two assistant magistrates because of the large number of defendants. The accused are expected to request additional time to prepare their statements.

Alleged police bribery case also comes into focus

A separate investigation involving Angelos Giannakopoulos has also drawn attention, focusing on allegations of bribery involving a police officer who served on Mykonos.

According to reporting by Ta Nea, authorities have examined allegations that payments and inside information helped people obtain advance knowledge of police operations and inspections.

Investigators have reportedly examined claims that Giannakopoulos had access to information about police movements and planned inspections of businesses in Attica and Mykonos.

The case also concerns a senior non-commissioned police officer who allegedly passed on confidential information from within the force. Authorities arrested the officer in the summer of 2025.

The officer’s trial is scheduled to begin on Friday, October 30, 2026.

The allegations in both cases remain subject to judicial proceedings.
