Kimberly Guilfoyle has resigned as US Ambassador to Greece after the White House asked her to step down following reports of misconduct.
White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia confirmed the request on Tuesday. President Trump said she “was doing a good job” but that he “didn’t like what I read.” Guilfoyle later confirmed her departure on X, calling the post “the honor of a lifetime” while denying the allegations as false and vowing to defend her reputation.
The reports, mainly from the Wall Street Journal, alleged she sought $100,000 from a donor to pay a credit card bill in exchange for access to Trump officials, promoted a Greek energy company’s interests, accepted improper gifts, and made threats involving the Greek government. A State Department review of embassy staff complaints was also reported.
The Greek government has not commented. Opposition PASOK spokesman Dimitris Mantzos said the resignation raises serious unanswered questions about Greece’s role.
During her tenure Guilfoyle signed US LNG and energy deals, appeared on Vogue Greece, and publicly called for China to sell its stake in the Piraeus port.
