Woman Arrested in UK Over Marfin Fire Case Due in Athens

A 46-year-old woman arrested in the United Kingdom under an international arrest warrant in connection with the deadly Marfin arson investigation is expected to arrive in Athens on Thursday before appearing before Greek judicial authorities on Friday.

According to reports, officers from Greece’s Directorate for Combating Organised Crime are already in the UK to escort the suspect back to Greece.

Greek authorities allege that the woman was a member of the criminal organisation believed to have been involved in the fatal Marfin attack. However, investigators have not accused her of directly carrying out the deadly arson.

Authorities reportedly identified the suspect through forensic analysis of her body type and hair characteristics as part of the ongoing investigation.

Her extradition is expected to be completed on Thursday, with her arrival in Athens scheduled for later that evening. She is then expected to appear before an investigating magistrate on Friday for the execution of the arrest warrant.

The 46-year-old has consented to her extradition to Greece but continues to deny any involvement in the Marfin case.

Meanwhile, last month, lawyer Kostas Papadakis announced that legal action would be taken against media reports and social media posts concerning the accused woman that allegedly violate her personality rights, personal data protections and the presumption of innocence, or contain defamatory, insulting or abusive content.
