Hero Indian Pilot in Stable Condition After Flydubai Terror Attack

An Indian pilot who was stabbed by his co-pilot during a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv remains in stable condition in the Saudi Arabian city of Tabuk, where the aircraft made an emergency landing after the alleged attack.

The Indian Embassy in Riyadh said the pilot, Smit Matsar, received medical treatment at a hospital in Tabuk after the Flydubai aircraft diverted to the northwestern Saudi Arabian city.

“Our embassy in Riyadh and our consulate in Jeddah are monitoring the health of Mr Smit Matsar, the brave Indian pilot of the Flydubai flight that diverted to Tabuk today,” the embassy said in a post on X.

The embassy said Matsar remains in stable condition and expressed hope that he would recover as soon as possible. It added that officials remain in contact with his family and will continue to monitor his condition in coordination with Saudi authorities.

Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the Flydubai pilot’s actions after the co-pilot allegedly attempted to cause the aircraft to crash.

“I salute Indian pilot Smit Matsar for his unparalleled courage,” Netanyahu wrote on X. He said Matsar continued to fight despite suffering serious stab wounds, opened the cockpit door and allowed passengers and crew to restrain the alleged attacker, preventing what Netanyahu described as an aviation tragedy.

Netanyahu said the pilot “saved the lives of 174 people”, including Israeli citizens, and wished Matsar a speedy recovery, calling him “a true hero.”
