Israel’s Prime Minister’s Office has launched a fierce attack on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, accusing him of pursuing an increasingly confrontational policy toward Israel and seeking to extend Turkey’s influence into Syria.
In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office described Erdoğan as an “antisemitic dictator” and accused him of a range of actions, including the persecution of Kurds, harboring Hamas members and supporting policies that Israel considers hostile.
The statement also criticised Turkey’s role in Cyprus, accusing Ankara of occupying the northern part of the island, while pointing to what it described as the jailing of large numbers of journalists and political opponents in Turkey.
According to the Israeli government, Erdoğan is now attempting to extend what it called his “aggression against Israel” into Syria.
“Israel will not tolerate it,” the Prime Minister’s Office said.
The statement also dismissed Erdoğan’s recent warnings directed at Israeli leaders and military personnel, calling them an attempt at intimidation.
“Erdoğan’s pathetic attempt to intimidate the leaders and soldiers of Israel, the only true democracy in the Middle East, will go nowhere,” the statement said.
The unusually strong language comes amid heightened tensions surrounding the security situation in Syria and the broader regional rivalry between Israel and Turkey.
Ankara has repeatedly criticised Israeli military operations in the region, while Israeli officials have increasingly expressed concern over Turkey’s growing involvement in Syria.
The latest exchange highlights the increasingly tense relationship between the two countries, which have become prominent rivals over regional security, Syria and the wider Middle East.
