The Consulate General of Greece in Sydney held an information session on how Greek citizens living in Australia can register to vote in the next Greek elections.
Consul General Georgios Skemperis briefed representatives of community organisations at 5pm and walked them through registration online and in person at the consulate. No appointment is needed if the visit is only to register. Any registered Greek citizen living abroad can do it.
He urged people not to wait until the election is called. Once the vote is formally announced, unregistered voters have only until 11.59pm Greek time the next day to get on the electoral roll. If the election were called on 30 January 2027, the deadline would be 31 January.
How Greeks in Sydney Can Register to Vote in the Next Election
Online
Registration is at apodimoi.ypes.gov.gr.
With Taxisnet credentials, you also need a personal email and a mobile number for a verification code.
Without Taxisnet, you can use a Greek passport on a computer or phone with a working camera. The system checks identity with a live photo.
In person in Sydney
Bring a Greek or Australian identity document, such as a driver’s licence, or a passport. You also need an email address and a mobile number you can open while you are at the consulate, because the process sends verification codes.
If you have a Greek tax file number, the consulate can register you with that. If you do not, you must give your details exactly as they are held in Greece: full name, father’s name, mother’s name and date of birth.
