Prime Minister Mitsotakis Hails myAGRO Launch as Major Step for Greek Farmers

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis today described the official presentation of the myAGRO digital platform as “a big day for the primary sector,” stressing that the government’s decision 15 months ago to transfer the functions of the former OPEKEPE agricultural payments agency into the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) has been vindicated.

Speaking after the presentation at AADE headquarters, Mitsotakis said the move was “necessary” to tackle longstanding weaknesses in the payment of agricultural and livestock subsidies to Greek farmers. “Today we are in the pleasant position to feel vindicated by this decision,” he stated, thanking the officials involved for completing the required processes promptly.

The new platform, which belongs entirely to the Greek state, is designed to simplify applications for EU agricultural subsidies. It enables greater interoperability with the Land Cadastre and tax authority data, allowing more professionals to assist farmers while maximising transparency and efficiency.

Mitsotakis encouraged farmers and livestock breeders to familiarise themselves with the system’s capabilities, with support from AADE. He announced payment targets: advance payments are intended to be made by 31 October for applications submitted by mid-September, with remaining payments completed by 30 November.

“The step we are taking today is very important for the management of European funds in a fair and transparent way,” the Prime Minister said. He added that Greece must no longer remain a “hostage” of the deep state, old-style politics and clientelism. Redistribution of funds away from those without a genuine entitlement would mean legitimate beneficiaries receive more support.

While noting that the system remains in a transitional phase, Mitsotakis emphasised that the new framework rests on solid foundations. He described the reform as essential preparation for the next Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) period and said modernising the primary sector would be a central government priority if New Democracy is returned to power in the 2027 elections, an issue in which he intends to be personally involved.

The myAGRO application is now operational and marks a key milestone in the overhaul of Greece’s agricultural subsidy system.
