Greece Restricts UAV Flights Over Kasos, Karpathos and Nearby Islands

Greece has activated Temporary Restricted Areas for unmanned aerial vehicles across parts of the southeastern Aegean, with the measures taking effect on 16 September 2026.

The restrictions cover zones around Kasos, Karpathos and nearby islets including Saria and Armathia. They apply daily from 07:00 to 19:00 until 31 October 2026 and generally run from ground level to 400 feet.

Six Greek NOTAMs establish the restricted areas inside the Athens FIR. The zones are centred on Karpathos and Kasos and include airspace near the islands’ airports as well as selected high ground on Karpathos.

The notices restrict most UAV operations in these areas. They do not single out Turkish aircraft by name, but they come amid increased Turkish drone activity over the Aegean and form part of Athens’ effort to control and monitor flights in sensitive Greek airspace.
