Turkish Fugitive Wanted by Interpol Arrested in Thessaloniki

Greek police arrested a 31-year-old Turkish national in Thessaloniki who was wanted under an Interpol Red Notice issued by the Turkish authorities.

Officers from the Northern Greece Sub-Directorate for Combating Organised Crime carried out the arrest after confirming that the man was the subject of an international wanted notice.

The Red Notice relates to multiple offences, including forgery of official documents, the purchase, possession and use of narcotic or psychotropic substances for personal use, cannabis cultivation for personal consumption, intentional bodily harm, making threats with a weapon, theft of locked property, and violating the sanctity of a residence.

According to the notice, Turkish courts sentenced the man to a combined prison term of 12 years, 33 months and 30 days for the offences.

Greek authorities said the suspect had previously come to the attention of law enforcement in Greece for drug possession, illegal firearm possession and illegal entry into the country.

The 31-year-old will appear before the competent public prosecutor as extradition and related legal procedures move forward.
