Greek Coast Guard Arrests Captain of Illegal Floating Café

by · Greek City Times

Greek Coast Guard officers have arrested the captain of a floating refreshment bar after the vessel berthed without authorisation at Koufonisia.

According to Coast Guard sources, the barge, which operates as a floating snack bar, arrived at Italida Beach on Saturday evening without obtaining the required permit.

A Coast Guard officer attended the scene, while the Naxos Port Authority dispatched a patrol vessel to inspect the barge.

During the inspection, authorities found that the vessel did not hold a licence to conduct commercial activities. Officials also confirmed that it did not carry out any commercial operations while it remained in the area.

The Naxos Public Prosecutor ordered the immediate removal of the barge from the beach and the arrest of the captain under Greece’s summary criminal procedure.

The Naxos Port Authority is conducting the preliminary investigation into the incident.
