Ilias Kasidiaris Announces Release from Prison and Return to Greek Political Scene

Former Golden Dawn MP Ilias Kasidiaris says he will be released from prison on Tuesday, September 15, and has announced plans to return to Greece’s political scene.

Kasidiaris said in a statement that he will leave the high-security prison at 12pm on Tuesday, describing his release as definitive and unconditional.

He also claimed that he will return with full political rights and indicated that he intends to resume an active political role.

“On Tuesday, September 15 at 12:00, I will be released definitively and unconditionally from the maximum security prison,” Kasidiaris said in his post.

“I return free and with full political rights to the central political scene and to the forefront of national struggles,” he added.

Kasidiaris’ prison sentence

Kasidiaris, a former MP for Golden Dawn, was sentenced to 13 years in prison following the landmark Greek trial that found the organisation operated as a criminal organisation.

His latest statement signals his intention to re-enter public political life following his release.

The announcement is likely to attract renewed attention to his political ambitions and the future of the political movement associated with him.

Kasidiaris has remained a prominent figure among supporters of Greece’s far-right political scene despite his imprisonment.
