Principote Mykonos has clarified that it has no connection to the beach bar in Ksamil, Albania, where a 20 year old Portuguese tourist was fatally injured during a violent altercation.

The Mykonos based business said the venue in Ksamil is using the Principote name without authorization and stressed that it has no business, ownership or other relationship with the Albanian establishment.

The clarification follows the death of 20 year old Portuguese tourist Luis Miguel Varela Mendes, who was killed during a fight at a beach bar in Ksamil.

In a statement, Principote Mykonos said it wanted to prevent any confusion surrounding the incident and its brand.

“PRINCIPOTE MYKONOS has absolutely no business or other relationship with the above Albanian store,” the company said, adding that the establishment is allegedly using its name illegally.

The company also said it has already taken legal action against the Albanian business, accusing it of unfair competition and of attempting to benefit from the international reputation Principote Mykonos has built over many years.

The statement comes as Albanian authorities continue investigating the deadly incident in Ksamil.

A total of 13 people have reportedly been arrested in connection with the case, while investigators continue examining the circumstances that led to the fatal confrontation.

The case has attracted significant attention in Albania and Portugal, while Principote Mykonos has moved to clearly distance its brand from the venue where the incident occurred.
