Two Men to Stand Trial for Alleged Murder of Greek-Australian Bill Frangos

Two men charged with the murder of 72-year-old Greek-Australian Bill Frangos will stand trial in South Australia, although a full hearing is not expected before 2028.

Yanick Masengo Nkhangu and Shekuba Kamara pleaded not guilty in Adelaide Magistrates Court to murdering Frangos on 6 November 2024. They also face charges of arson and destroying his remains the following day.

Both men remain in custody and will appear in the Supreme Court in October, when a trial date is expected to be set. Court sources confirm the Supreme Court trial list is currently full until at least 2028.

Background
Frangos’ body was found inside a fire-damaged home in Woodville Gardens in November 2024. The elderly man had lived alone with his dog, which emergency workers discovered unharmed in the rear yard.

The two accused were arrested and charged five months later.

Court Proceedings
Kamara’s lawyer, Jasmine Daniel, said her client’s “firm preference is to answer the charge today and be committed so he can secure a trial date in 2028.”

“Given it’s going to be 2028, it’s in everyone’s interests a trial date is fixed sooner rather than later,” she told the court.

Prosecutor Emma Shaw confirmed that the cases against both men should remain joined. She noted that earlier negotiations with Kamara’s legal team had produced no result.

Police have also sought to speak with former domestic violence charity executive Kelly-Ann Tansley, who later moved to the UK. Authorities have stressed she is a witness only and has not been charged.

The Greek-Australian community continues to follow the Bill Frangos murder trial closely as it progresses slowly through the justice system.
