Police Recover Phone of Missing Chinese Woman in Athens

Greek authorities have recovered the mobile phone believed to belong to 50-year-old Chinese realtor Yu Ting, marking a significant development in the investigation into her disappearance.

According to reports, Yu Ting’s husband is at the Amarousio Crime Investigation Department to formally confirm that the recovered device belongs to his missing wife.

Police found the phone in central Athens in the possession of a foreign national. The man reportedly told investigators that he had found the device before later selling it to another individual. Authorities traced and seized the phone following the lifting of telecommunications privacy restrictions as part of the investigation.

However, investigators discovered that the device had been restored to its factory settings, erasing all user data.

The mobile phone will now undergo forensic examination at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, where specialists will attempt to recover deleted information.

Police hope to retrieve contacts, messages, photographs and location history that could provide crucial evidence about Yu Ting’s final movements before she disappeared.

Yu Ting has been missing since May 20, when she was last seen in the Artemida area of eastern Attica. Her disappearance remains one of Greece’s most puzzling missing-person cases in recent months.

Her husband, together with his lawyer, Tasos Ntougas, has provided investigators with information about her business and financial activities, particularly transactions she reportedly conducted in central Athens.

Investigators believe the recovered phone could prove pivotal to solving the case. The results of the forensic analysis are expected to guide the next phase of the investigation and may help determine what happened to the missing realtor.
