US Rewords Turkish-Libyan Deal As “Unhelpful and Provocative”
by Kosta Papadopoulos · Greek City TimesThe US State Department has corrected its statement regarding the Libyan Parliament’s ratification of the Turkish-Libyan maritime delimitation memorandum following coordinated diplomatic efforts by the US Embassy in Athens and the Greek Embassy in Washington.
The revised statement says the announcement of the ratification has raised regional tensions and is “unhelpful and provocative”, adding that Washington’s position on the matter has not changed.
The correction followed significant efforts by US Chargé d’Affaires in Athens Josh Huck and his team, working with regional partners and State Department colleagues.
Greek Ambassador to Washington Antonis Alexandridis also played a key role, alongside diplomats Fotis Boulogiannis, Martinos Mandalidis, Lana Zochiou and Thanos Leousis.

The State Department said it encourages all countries, including partners in the Eastern Mediterranean, to resolve maritime disputes through good-faith negotiations and avoid provocative behaviour.
It also stressed that Greece and Türkiye, both NATO allies, should engage bilaterally to address areas of disagreement.
“Peaceful resolution of such disputes opens the way for commercial investment and exploration that will benefit the entire region,” the department said.
