An anti-drone system developed by Greece’s Armed Forces helped neutralise a drone attempting to deliver prohibited items into Larissa Prison on August 20, 2026.

The “Tevkros” anti-drone system, supplied by the Research, Technological Development and Innovation Centre (KETAK) of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (GEETHA), operated successfully as part of cooperation between the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the General Secretariat for Crime Policy.

According to an official update, authorities activated one of the systems at the Larissa Prison on Thursday, August 20, after a drone attempted to introduce prohibited items into the correctional facility.

The system successfully neutralised the unmanned aircraft, helping prevent the attempted delivery.

Greek Military Technology Used Beyond Defence

Sources at the Ministry of National Defence said the incident demonstrates the practical value of Greece’s domestic technological capabilities in addressing modern security threats.

It also highlights the operational value of technologies developed by GEETHA/KETAK, which authorities can deploy directly outside the strictly military environment.

The ministry said the successful deployment demonstrates how technological capabilities developed within the Armed Forces can address emerging security challenges while allowing the military to support other parts of the state through its expertise and innovative technologies.

25 More Tevkros II Systems Planned

Following the cooperation and the positive results from their operational use so far, the General Secretariat for Crime Policy is expected to receive 25 additional “Tevkros II” anti-drone systems.

The newer systems will offer more advanced operational capabilities and will come from GEETHA/KETAK. Authorities intend to use them to further strengthen security at correctional facilities across Greece.

The latest incident follows two similar cases earlier in 2026.

On February 28, an anti-drone system prevented a drone from delivering prohibited items at the Drama Prison.

On March 1, authorities used an anti-drone system to neutralise another drone attempting to introduce prohibited items into Larissa Prison.

The repeated incidents have highlighted the growing role of counter-drone technology in protecting Greece’s correctional facilities.
