Turkish National Wanted by Interpol Arrested in Thessaloniki

Greek police arrested a 37-year-old Turkish national in Thessaloniki on Monday morning who was wanted internationally under an Interpol Red Notice.

Officers from the Northern Greece Sub-Directorate for Combating Organised Crime arrested the man after Turkish authorities issued the international alert.

According to a statement from the Hellenic Police, Turkish authorities are seeking his extradition so he can serve the remaining four years and 11 months of a prison sentence.

A Turkish court imposed the sentence for offences involving the trafficking or supply of narcotic or psychotropic substances, as well as the illegal purchase, transportation or possession of firearms and ammunition.

Officers from the Department for the Prosecution of Crimes Against Life and Property located and arrested the wanted man as part of the investigation.

Police took the 37-year-old to the competent prosecutor’s office, where authorities will handle the next stage of the case.
