Greek Coast Guard Arrests 3,391 Illegal Immigrants in August

Greek authorities arrested 3,391 foreign nationals for irregular entry into the country by sea during August 2026, according to figures from the Hellenic Coast Guard.

The arrests came in 83 incidents handled by local Coast Guard authorities across the country.

The Coast Guard also recorded 70 arrests of alleged people smugglers during August, while four boats and one vehicle were seized.

Meanwhile, authorities dealt with a new incident involving 44 foreign nationals found about 50 nautical miles southeast of Kaloi Limenes, Crete.

Under the coordination of the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), a Frontex unmanned aircraft detected a boat carrying the 44 people.

A rescue vessel subsequently picked them up and is transporting them to Kaloi Limenes. Weather conditions in the area were reported as good.
