Turkish intelligence chief Kalın warned Mitsotakis over Israel ties, Greek paper alleges
by Bill Giannopoulos · Greek City TimesGreek newspaper Estia has claimed that Turkey’s intelligence chief İbrahim Kalın delivered a blunt warning to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during a discreet visit to Athens.
According to the nationalist-conservative daily, Kalın met Mitsotakis privately at the Maximos Mansion after talks with his Greek counterpart, EYP director Themistoklis Demiris. The paper alleged that Kalın conveyed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s red lines on the Aegean 12-nautical-mile limit, Cyprus, and Greece’s deepening defence ties with Israel.
Estia reported that the message included a caution not to allow Israel to draw Greece into any action against Turkey, and that an attack launched through Greek islands or Cyprus would draw a Turkish response against Greece. The newspaper described the exchange as an ultimatum.
Turkish media have widely reported the claim. The Greek government has denied that any ultimatum was issued. Kalın’s visit and meetings with Greek intelligence officials are confirmed by multiple sources; the precise content of any conversation with Mitsotakis remains an unconfirmed allegation.
