Greek President to Attend Panagia Soumela Celebrations

Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas will attend the August 15 celebrations at the Panagia Soumela Monastery in Kastania, Imathia, where he will receive the Grand Cross of the Great Komnenos Emperors of Trebizond.

The celebrations will begin on Friday with the Hierarchical Vespers and the procession of the Panagia Soumela icon.

On Saturday morning, the programme will continue with the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy. Following the service, worshippers will take part in a procession of the icon and the Panagia Soumela and lay wreaths at the bust of Alexander Ypsilantis.

A cultural programme featuring Pontian dance groups will follow.

The Panagia Soumela Holy Shrine and the Panagia Soumela Association are organising the August 15 celebrations.
