Bank staff to go on 3-day nationwide strike from Sept. 28

Mysuru: With Bank employees going on a 3-day nationwide strike from Sept. 28, seeking fulfilment of their various demands which chiefly included a 5-day working week and a solution for all ending and residual issues, Banks will remain shut for 5 consecutive days from Sept. 26 as Sept. 26 is Holiday (fourth Saturday)  and Sept. 27, a general holiday on Sunday.

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) comprising Unions such as AIBEA, AIBOC, NCBE, AIBOA, BEFI, INBEF and  INBOC, has called for the nationwide strike. Earlier, the UFBU had called for a one-day strike on Sept. 11 over the same issues, coinciding with three other holidays — Sept. 12 (Second Saturday), Sept. 13 (Sunday) and Sept. 14 (Ganesha Chaturthi), which hampered banking services.

With the 3-day bank strike coinciding with two other holidays, making it five in a row, the RBI on Wednesday announced that it had no objections for the functioning of the Banks on Sunday, However, the Bank bodies are yet to take a call on working on Sunday (Sept. 27), as it involves invoking of Negotiable Instruments Act, it is learnt.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that parleys have continued between the Union Government and Bank Unions on finding an amicable solution to the demands of bank employees. There are also chances that the UBFU may call off the 3-day  strike if the Union Government responds positively to the demands.

Bank staff to stage demo this evening

Meanwhile, ahead of the 3-day nationwide strike from Sept. 28, the Bank staff will stage a nationwide demonstration at all centres at 5.30 pm this evening after Banking hours close.

As part of the demonstration, the Bank staff from different branches across the city, will assemble at Canara Bank located on Temple Road in Jayalakshmipuram and hold a demonstration to press for fulfilment of their various demands.
