Body of boy with wounds found in lake; murder suspected

Mandya: The body of a boy with wounds was found in the lake at Mayappanahalli village in the district on Monday evening. His family members have accused the deceased boy’s minor friend of murder.

The deceased is Deepak (15), son of Raju and Jyothi couple of Mayappanahalli village.

On Monday evening, Deepak’s body with wounds was found floating in the lake. Deepak had gone out to play with his friend. As he did not come even after dark, his family members went in search of him.

When the family members asked Deepak’s friend about Deepak’s whereabouts, the friend replied in negative. But Deepak’s grandmother informed the family members that she had seen Deepak and his friends walking towards the village lake. Deepak’s family members then accused Deepak’s friend of murder.

The body was later shifted to MIMS Hospital in Mandya, where deceased Deepak’s family members and members of Vishwakarma community staged a protest demanding the arrest of Deepak’s friend.

Dy.SP Lakshminarayana, who arrived at the spot, assured the family members of conducting a thorough probe, following which the family members gave their consent for the conduct of post-mortem.

Keregodu Police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
