BJP Mandya unit to lay siege to KRS Dam tomorrow
by InsideOut Consult · Star of MysoreMandya: Condemning the failure of the State Government in handling Cauvery dispute, BJP Mandya district unit has decided to lay siege to KRS Dam in Srirangapatna taluk tomorrow (July 31).
Former MLC and BJP Spokesperson Ashwath Narayan Gowda told media persons here yesterday, BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra will be leading the protest, along with Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly R. Ashoka and Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy.
Ashwath Narayan said, there was a lot of hopes on the CM D.K. Shivakumar, which has turned out to be false. As the Government failed to provide accurate information to Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC), the latter ordered to release 3,500 cusecs of water daily to Tamil Nadu for 15 days. Such a decision came through, only due to the inept handling of a serious matter by the CM and Water Resources Minister, he alleged.
Shivakumar was aware of the weak monsoon, despite which he didn’t wake up to the realities. Instead, he advised farmers to refrain from cultivating crops, only to push the farmers towards the brink of difficulties. Even before CWRC passed its order, the Government was releasing 800 to 1,000 cusecs of water to TN, thus failing to protect the interests of farmers here, said Ashwath Narayan.
While there is no Agriculture Minister yet, with the Ministry under the direct supervision of the CM, the Water Resources portfolio has been allocated to a MLA, who lacks a least interest in the particular Ministry.
BJP District Unit President Dr. N.S. Indresh, General Secretary Vivek, City President Prasanna, leaders Naganand, C.T. Manjunath and Chandru were present.
