Mysuru: The famed Dasara Flower Show, which draws tens of thousands of visitors each year, will feature a floral replica of Bengaluru’s Vidhana Soudha as its centrepiece this year. Organised under the theme ‘Festival of Democracy,’ the show will combine floral artistry with a message on civic awareness.
The Department of Horticulture will host the show at Kuppanna Park near Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Circle (Hardinge Circle) from Oct. 11 to 21. Preparations are already underway.
The expo will focus on compulsory voting, the importance of the ballot and the Constitution, with these themes depicted through floral sculptures to raise awareness among visitors.
Inside the Glass House, a grand replica of Vidhana Soudha will be recreated using lakhs of roses. The structure, measuring 42 feet wide, 18 feet long and 15 feet high, will symbolise the spirit of democracy.
Floral Constitutional symbols
Floral replicas of the Constitution, Ashoka Chakra and State Emblem will also be displayed, all made of roses. The colours of the roses will be finalised within two days. To retain the freshness of the displays, the flowers will be replaced midway through the exhibition.
With daily footfall expected to be between 30,000 and 40,000, the organisers plan to use the floral displays to convey a strong message on democratic participation.
Hundreds of sprinklers will be installed inside the Glass House to protect the flowers from wilting in the prevailing dry weather. Ceiling-mounted sprinkling systems will also be used to keep the displays fresh.
Sub-themes yet to be finalised
Apart from the main theme, sub-themes will be finalised shortly. Planned floral installations include women’s empowerment, the State’s Guarantee Schemes and India’s sporting achievements at the Commonwealth Games. These will be spread across different sections of Kuppanna Park. Meanwhile, the tender process for entry ticketing and food stalls is in its final stage and is expected to be completed within a week.
Joint Director of Horticulture Roopashree said, preparations were in full swing. “This year’s flower show will be held under the banner of the Festival of Democracy, with Vidhana Soudha recreated in roses inside the Glass House. Sub-themes are yet to be finalised,” she said.
