Transformation of 80 Garbage Vulnerable Points

Mysuru: Marking the 80th Independence Day, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) transformed 80 identified Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) across nine city zones into clean and attractive public spaces as part of a major cleanliness drive.

Officials, environmental engineers, health inspectors, supervisors, civic workers and drivers who contributed to the initiative were felicitated at a ceremony held at the MCC yesterday.

Among the GVPs, the one at Gokulam Crematorium in Zone-4 won the first prize. The GVPs at C.V. Road in Zone-7 and Sathagalli Ring Road in Zone-9 secured the second prize.

The third prize was shared by the Chamaraj Double Road GVP in Zone-6 and the Cauvery Apartment-Sharadadevinagar GVP in Zone-3. The C.V. Road GVP team in Zone-7 was also presented with the rolling trophy.

Outstanding civic workers who were honoured included Anitha (Ward-55), Sathya (Ward-55), Naveen (Ward-28), Anjaiah (Ward-17), Narasimha (Ward-25) and Vijay (Ward-40).

The MCC said the initiative would not stop with the transformation of the 80 GVPs and would continue in a phased manner to eliminate all garbage-prone spots in the city. The Corporation aims to make Mysuru a GVP-free city and the country’s No. 1 clean city.

The MCC has urged citizens not to dump waste on roads, vacant plots or other public spaces. Citizens have also been asked to segregate wet and dry waste at source and hand it over to MCC garbage collection vehicles.
