City BJP stages ‘mock funeral’ against ‘bankrupt’ Government

Mysuru: As part of its State wide protest, the City and District BJP units took out a ‘Mock funeral’ procession, accusing the ruling Congress Government of pushing the State to bankruptcy, at Ramaswamy Circle this morning.

Addressing the party workers, City BJP President L. Nagendra alleged that the State was on the verge of bankruptcy, because of financial mismanagement by the ruling Congress.

“Though the Government announced a Rs. 10,000 crore grant for development of roads, the Finance Department has red flagged, stating that the Government is well short of money. The Government points at the Centre whenever it is questioned about the State’s finances and grants to Departments. The Home Department has tied the hands of the State Police force and as a result, crimes and other illegal activities are on the rise. There are reports about misuse of funds in almost all Departments and Congress MLAs are tendering resignations over poor funding to their Constituencies,” Nagendra maintained and added that the Congress Government would be voted out of power in the next election.

Former MP Prathap Simha said that the State’s finances are in very poor shape and the Government is struggling to allot funds for pensions and other social security schemes.

“Apart from the natural drought caused by failure of monsoon rains, the State Government is also facing ‘Financial drought,’ with no funds for many of the Government’s flagship schemes. After much hype over ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ Scheme, the Government is now finding it difficult to allocate funds and has ordered a review of the scheme in order to lessen the number of beneficiaries,” he pointed out.

Alleging that the State Government was facing severe dearth of funds, with the State almost going bankrupt due to its policies and follies, Simha noted that B.S. Yediyurappa, as the Chief Minister earlier, had set up a corpus fund for handling drought and other natural disasters. But the ruling Congress has not done any such thing for tackling drought, he alleged and mocked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for engaging comedians at his student interaction events, after failing to take on PM Modi politically and electorally.

District (Rural) BJP President Kumbralli Subbanna, party leaders Anil Thomas, N.V. Phaneesh, Rakesh and others were present on the occasion.
