Bengaluru: Higher Education Minister Dr. M.C. Sudhakar, has directed the Vice-chancellor of University of Mysore (UoM), to submit a proposal to establish S.M. Krishna Study Chair at the Varsity.
Following a memorandum submitted in this regard by MLC Dinesh Gooligowda, on the occasion of birth anniversary of former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna on May 1, Minister Sudhakar has instructed Mysore Varsity authorities, to prepare a proposal in this regard, to study the achievements and life of Krishna.
Gooligowda, in his memorandum has stated that, Krishna has enormously contributed for the development of the State.
He (Krishna) holds the credit of computerisation of Revenue Department related documents through Bhoomi initiative, along with metamorphosing Bengaluru as Silicon Valley, by providing a platform for Information Technology (IT) and Bio-technology (BT) companies.
Yeshasvini Health Insurance scheme for the benefit of farmers and Bisi Oota scheme for Government school students, are Krishna’s other notable programmes.
Krishna, who was known for his acumen and elegance, had a farsighted vision in administration and imbibed diplomatic skills, a rare combination of qualities one can see in any politician, which is a role model for today’s leaders.
Hence, it is imperative to study the achievements of Krishna in the fields of education, public policies and his vision for development. To make it possible, a study chair should be established after Krishna, either at Bangalore or Mysore Varsity, Gooligowda, also the Vice-chairman of State Guarantee Implementation Authority, had urged.
