Youth thrashed outside college

Assault over friendship with girl; Dy.SP’s son caught in the crossfire

Mysuru: A youth was allegedly assaulted by a group of men while talking to a girl outside a college in Mysuru. According to the Police complaint, the assailants were the girl’s relatives and friends, who objected to their conversation.

The son of a senior Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP), who was caught up in the incident, was also beaten up despite repeatedly telling the assailants that he had no role in the dispute.

The incident occurred on Friday night (Oct. 23) in front of a cafe on Manasagangothri Road, opposite Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE). Both the youth and the girl are students of the college. Their identities have not been disclosed.

According to sources, some of the girl’s relatives spotted the two talking and informed her parents and family friends. A group of men soon arrived in vehicles, confronted the youth and allegedly assaulted him.

The assailants reportedly kicked the youths to the ground, creating a commotion on the busy road as motorists stopped to watch the assault. Videos of the incident, recorded on mobile phones, have since gone viral on social media.

The Dy.SP’s son has lodged a complaint at the Jayalakshmipuram Police Station, and a case has been registered.

Police are examining CCTV footage to establish the sequence of events and identify those involved. “We have established the identity of the victims and are in the process of tracing the other accused,” a Police officer said.
